Galen Brown is the guitarist for Kilkenny Road. He is a soft spoken individual who is humble about his playing, but as soon as he picks up his instrument it is quickly apparent that he is in his comfort zone. As an accomplished player with a diverse appreciation for music, Galen can be found playing Irish music with Kilkenny Road, and the next day he can be seen at a local bluegrass jam. Galen has also recently found a rewarding pastime in teaching "old rock tunes" on the electric guitar to teenage/young adult students.
Galen says:"I began playing guitar in 1978 after listening to an acoustic instrument jam/ practice session in Leon Campbell's garage west of Bartlesville. From that point forward I couldn't get enough of the acoustic music and the acoustic guitar. I began traveling to every Bluegrass music festival in the area and some on the east coast. The musicians at those festivals and jam sessions shared their musical knowledge and I listened to albums to hear what was being played and tried to emulate the musicians work. Still today I'm always listening to music via the internet to pick-up new tunes. I was always drawn to the Irish rhythms and loved the personality of the music so when Kilkenny Road invited me to join them, I knew I'd love the music. I live with my wife and son in Bartlesville where I've lived for the past 55 years and am employed as a Realtor."
Galen plays a vintage Mossman guitar, which is one of the select few instruments that were made in Winfield, KS by the luthier Stuart Mossman.
